In the late 1800’s, there were many herbal remedies, knows as bitters, which early bartenders used extensively during the formation of cocktail culture. Their ability to add depth and character to a cocktail as well as draw out subtle flavors has made bitters an essential ingredient behind the modern bar. Join us for an in-depth look into the origin, styles and techniques of making bitters as well as how to use them in fine cocktails. Fruit distillate- one of the broadest and largely under appreciated family of spirits in the bar world. With so many styles and cultural verities, there is a huge array of cocktails to explore from the early pre-prohibition days, up to very modern times.
